Bodrum (Turkey)

Bodrum and the south coast of the Turkish Aegean is a dream destination for active holidaymakers as the range of sports on offer is as varied as the landscape.
Water sports enthusiasts are particularly well catered for as the wonderful beaches around Bodrum peninsula not only boast fine sandy beaches and clear water, but also various sporting options, on, in and under the water. Fun sports such as banana boat rides, jet skiing and paragliding may be found on many beaches. Surfers will find the north coast of the peninsula around Turgutreis primarily interesting. Diving lessons are available practically all along the coast; independent tours are forbidden in order to prevent the theft of ancient relics. The term "blue journey" has been coined as a synonym for a relaxing sailing tour along the coast. From March until October, one day long or several daylong trips may be booked aboard magnificent sailing boats, whether visitors choose to take part in organised tour or to hire their own boat is entirely for them to decide.
Horse riding tours are offered in the areas around the main tourist resorts, and the Dalaman River is also ideal for kayaking and rafting. Many of the large hotels also hire out their tennis facilities to non-guests. Hiking in the hinterlands and the nearby mountains is particularly inviting in spring and autumn, something that offers the best opportunities for observing the unspoilt nature and the native bird life.
