Dalmatian Coast
(Croatia)
Sports options in Dalmatia are diverse as the ideal conditions are available for many leisure activities. Tennis, sailing, diving, rafting, free climbing and paragliding are just a few of the possibilities.
The Dalmatian coastal region is a maritime paradise, whether one seeks activity above or below the water. Skippers may indulge in their passion on the over 800 mls of coastline and particularly around Kornati, an archipelago of 125 islands and islets with up to 100 m high sheer cliffs, which are particularly impressive. Further sporting options such as diving, paragliding and water skiing are on offer in the numerous bays with emerald-green waters that line the Dalmatian coast.
During the sixties, many locals from the Paklenica National Park, which lies in the northeast of Zadar, boosted their income by working as a cowboy or Indian for the western film, Old Surehand. Nowadays, it is not redskins that lurk amidst the rugged cliffed landscape but free climbers seeking their route upwards. Within this park are also many opportunities to discover the natural environment: trekking and horseback tours or ornithological hikes are just a few of the options.
