Dalmatian Coast (Croatia)

Hospitality is of utmost importance in Dalmatia. Perhaps because long ago the heathen natives worshipped amongst others, a god of hospitality.
The cheerful Croatian people have retained this tradition even today and most visitors will spend many comfortable hours taking advantage of this. A further tradition that has been retained is table etiquette whereby the guest is always served with the first glass of wine and the first plate of food. Subsequently, the guest is also urged to serve himself from the delicious regional specialities.
The Adriatic coastal regions may reflect upon a moving history punctuated by various periods of occupation. Over the years, the Greeks, Romans, French, Slavs and Italians gave high regard to the relaxing factors of the coast's comfortable climate and enchanting landscape. Hundreds of years ago, as today, holidaymakers travelled here and enjoyed the excellent cuisine, something that could explain the coastal inhabitants' steadfast hospitality.
